What is a gratitude Journal ?
I love Elizabeth Gilbert's (Author of Eat, Pray, Love) definition of a Gratitude journal :
"Every day, at the end of the day, grab your gratitude journal and write down in it the happiest moment of the day.
"Even on lousy days, you do this. Because even on lousy days, there is one best moment (or at least, one least-worst moment.)
write that little idea in your journal.
Over the years, you have a record of your happiness.
On bad days, I take a look at my journal — pulling up a handful of great moments that I would have utterly forgotten, had I not documented them.
I've been doing this practice for years, and I love it.
If my house ever caught on fire, this would be the one material object I would grab before I ran out the door...because what's inside this Journal. THAT'S WHERE IT'S AT — the whole point of this life.
Over the years, my gratitude journal has taught me much. What continually amazes me is what ends up on the slip of paper every day. Not awesome events, not huge achievements — usually just a small and tiny thing, a moment of awareness...that moment when you
step outside and between the house and the car you get hit on the top of the head with a beam of sunlight, and suddenly feel awash with gratitude simply for being alive, and you think, "Yes. This is it."
It's usually something that small — and something that grand."
Gratitude = Appreciation
We are so hard on ourselves, we tend to focus on the negative more than the small positives. We tend to look at how far we still have to go, instead of looking at how far we have come. Winners don't give up, they celebrate each and every little success they experience during the day, by counting their blessings and celebrating them.
"Like attracts like, success breeds success.
The more you feel successful the more success will come your way.
You cannot feel successful if you do not look for or acknowledge your successes. The success can be major or minor it doesn't matter.
What matters is that you acknowledge yourself for whatever you did."
~ T. Harv Eckhart
Gratitude and appreciation is all about being very gentle with ourselves, and magnifying with love and support every little step we take and by doing so we attract more good and love into our life.
Acknowledge your successes no matter how small they are, by writing them down in your journal.
" The reason why people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have come. " ~unknown
" At the end of the day I gotta remember, my blessings outweigh my problems. " ~unknown
"Make it a habit to be grateful for the smallest details in life. These small details are so numerous that you can spend as much time as you want in a state of gratitude. This gratitude opens to even more of abundance." ~ Ralph S. Marston
